White refined sugar is the past, but healthy coconut sugar is certainly the future! Forget about blood sugar fluctuations and unhealthy sweetening, and caress your taste buds with 100% natural sweets, that besides the amazing taste, are also quite rich in the nutrient profile. Let’s take a closer look at what it’s all about!
What is Coconut Sugar?
Organic coconut sugar is an unprocessed natural sugar which is sweet and with a slight caramel taste that comes from a coconut palm flower nectar. Dehydrating the nectar causes the water to evaporate, and the remaining is the sugar from the coconut nectar. Coconut sugar comprises ¾ sucrose, the rest is composed of glucose and fructose. It is 100% organic, natural, healthy and has a truly great taste, which will undoubtedly win the heart of every sweet tooth! We believe that once you have tried it, you will no longer want to grab refined white sugar!
How is this delicious sugar different from classic refined sugar?
It differs from classic white refined sugar in terms of colour, taste and composition. Coconut sugar is fine-grained and slightly caramel-brown in colour, reminiscing the already familiar brown sugar. In addition it is a source of unrefined and useful vitamins and minerals, containing rich amounts of potassium, iron, magnesium and also zinc. It also contains B vitamins, vitamin C and enzymes.
Two different types – light and dark: What distinguishes them?
There are two types of coconut sugar available – dark and light sugar. The sugar which is sold in the Centralsun e-shop is light one and it is produced using lower heat and therefore it’s slightly lighter in colour than the dark one. The taste is also slightly softer in light coconut sugar, not so strongly caramel. However, light coconut sugar is sweeter than dark coconut sugar, so a much smaller amount is enough to sweeten a food or drink. In addition, light coconut sugar does not give food as dark of a colour as dark coconut sugar.
The biggest advantage over white sugar – low glycemic index (GI)
Compared to classic white sugar, coconut sugar has a significantly lower glycemic index (GI), which means that it doesn’t cause sharp rises in blood sugar and insulin levels, which can happen with regular refined sugar. Therefore, it is also considered a suitable sweetener for those with unbalanced blood sugar, people losing weight and health lovers with sweet tooths. It has a glycemic index (GI) level of 35, while cane sugar has a level of 68.
How to use it?
Coconut sugar is perfect to put in tea and coffee as well as for seasoning various desserts, making healthy lollipops and also for balancing flavours in salty dishes. As it can withstand higher temperatures, it is also suitable for a variety of baked goods such as cakes, muffins, pastries, pancakes, pretzels and pies- just let your imagination fly! With coconut sugar, it is easy to add a slight caramel taste to desserts, which is like a cherry on the cake.
