What is coconut wood cutlery?
Coconut palm wood is a dense, hard tropical wood whose cut surface shows characteristic dark flecks – the palm’s vascular bundles. The cutlery is cut from the wood, hand-sanded smooth and finished with linseed oil – a natural food-safe oil that seals the surface, so it does not absorb liquid or odours.
A wooden knife is meant for soft foods: spreading butter and spreads, cutting fruit, vegetables, cake and cheese. The fork has four short tines for salad, pasta and dessert. Neither contains any plastic or metal.
Because wood is a natural material, every knife and fork has a slightly different grain and tone. That is a mark of handcraft, not a fault.

Use and care
Washing
Wash by hand in warm water with a little washing-up liquid and dry immediately with a towel. Do not soak and do not put in the dishwasher – long contact with water and heat can crack the wood.
Care
If the surface turns dull after long use, rub the cutlery with a drop of linseed oil and let it soak in. Do not use in a microwave. Store in a dry place.
Use
Suitable for any food you would eat with an ordinary knife and fork; the knife is not meant for cutting hard foods. Fine for hot food too, but do not leave the cutlery standing in hot food.
Material and safety
The cutlery has been tested against food-contact requirements: TÜV Rheinland Vietnam, report no. 248145953, German LFGB § 31. The tests covered migration of heavy metals (including lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic), migration of formaldehyde and pentachlorophenol – all results were within the limits.
Made by Coco-Eco (CPIMEX Co.) in Vietnam from coconut palm wood. The surface is finished with linseed oil, a natural food-safe oil; production and finish have been unchanged since the 2022 test.
Frequently asked questions
Is every knife and fork identical?
No. The grain and tone differ slightly from piece to piece, because this is a natural material and handcraft.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. Wash by hand and dry immediately – that way the wood stays sound for years.
Does the wood give food a taste or smell?
No. The surface is smooth and finished with linseed oil; the wood does not absorb liquid or odours.
Is it suitable for children?
The cutlery is light and has no sharp edges, so it also suits children at the table. The knife is not a sharp cutting knife.
Is it single-use?
No, this is reusable cutlery. With proper care it lasts for years; at the end of its life the wood is biodegradable.
