Superfood powders – for who and why?

Superfood powders – for who and why?

What is “superfood”?

Superfoods are natural food supplements that have many times higher nutritional value, allowing you to get multiple doses of the necessary vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients from a small amount. For example, Camu Camu berries contain 30 times more vitamin C and 10 times more iron than, for example, orange. However, flour made from dried Camu Camu berries is very convenient to add to a smoothie or porridge, because already 3-5 grams provide about 75 mg of vitamin C. Another superfood like this is spirulina. This dark green algae is one of the most powerful superfoods in the world, rich in vital nutrients and antioxidants, including protein, iron and complex vitamins A, K and B. In addition, spirulina is rich in chlorophyll and useful fatty acids and one of the best sources of beta-carotene. In fact, spirulina is the food with the highest beta-carotene content in the world. Compared to the beta-carotene content of carrots, for example, the beta-carotene in spirulina is ten times more concentrated. In addition, spirulina is helpful for almost all chronic diseases and symptoms, but just like with the aforementioned Camu Camu, only 1-2 teaspoons of spirulina a day is enough to strengthen, support and help your body. The choice of superfoods is actually very large and wide, and the above are just a few examples of the true superpowers of superfoods. All in all, this is how these superfood powders work, containing extremely useful nutrients in many times larger quantities and in concentrated form, thus allowing you to get everything you need from a tiny amount and further enrich your daily (healthy) food and fully support your body.

However, if you now ask whether it is not possible to eat healthily without superfoods, then of course this is not the case and no superfood can replace a varied and healthy diet! However, it is definitely worth looking at superfoods if you want to boost your immune system, cleanse your body, increase energy levels or get rid of some chronic diseases. Also, various superfoods and freeze-dried powders are a great helpers in cases if the fruit/ herb or other plant doesn’t taste that good to you but you still want to get the useful properties. An example is fresh spinach -if you are not fond of the taste that much, a very good help is freeze-dried spinach powder, which consumes very little in quantity, only 2-3 teaspoons are enough, but it is much easier and more convenient to consume than several hundred grams of fresh spinach.

What to look for when choosing superfoods?
As with any foods it is important to choose the purest possible product and give preference to an eco-certified product and ensure that it is GMO-free. This way you can be sure that it is a high-quality product that has not been exposed to chemicals that have not been genetically modified and that has the best possible bioavailability. However, if the product information contains a long list of different additives, I strongly recommend that you do not purchase it. For any food supplement and superfood, quality is ALWAYS more important than quantity.

My favorite superfood powders
I have tried and experimented with different things over the years. I add superfoods to smoothies as well as porridges and desserts. Banana ice cream with freeze-dried dragon powder, for example, is something really good! Currently, my daily intake includes:

High-quality Spirulina of Hawaiian origin (buy HERE)
Barley juice powder (buy HERE)
Aloe Vera gel extract freeze-dried powder for making aloe water (buy HERE)
Various freeze-dried fruit powders (currently the favorites are papaya freeze-dried powder and passion fruit powder).

Why do I consume these superfood powders?
Because I want to cleanse my body of heavy metals, strengthen my immunity and heal my body. I have added two powerful healers and body cleanser – Hawaiian spirulina and barley juice powder – these two are some of the stronger superfoods to support your body. However, I prefer Aloe Vera freeze-dried powder because of its convenience. As fresh Aloe Vera is not always available, the freeze-dried option is a great alternative to making aloe water. Aloe Vera is a plant with wonderful healing properties and is also one of the oldest herbs in the world. Aloe cleanses the blood, reduces inflammation, relieves joint pain, lowers high cholesterol, increases physical endurance, is very useful in cardiovascular diseases and is also a good helper with irritable bowel syndrome and other indigestion problems. I also enjoy freeze-dried fruit powders, however, I mainly prefer tropical ones that are not always available in fresh form, or they are simply very expensive fresh. For example, papaya. Papaya is one of the most nutritious and healing fruits, rich in vitamins C and A and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium and iron. In addition, papaya helps to treat indigestion problems and has a calming and cleansing effect on the digestive tract. Papaya also has a strong antiviral and anti-inflammatory effect, being an excellent helper in various chronic diseases. However, it is quite difficult for us to find fresh ripe papaya here in Estonia, and the price is also quite high. That’s why I occasionally add papaya to my smoothies in freeze-dried form. In terms of quantity, only 2-3 teaspoons are enough.
